"The only thing wrong with adoption is what everyone thinks of it," a 10-year-old told IAI.

Becoming a member of Institute for Adoption Information (IAI) will support our mission to eliminate the myth and stigma of adoption and publish books to help professionals who encounter adoption in their work provide more sensitive and informed treatment of adoption.

Our work is designed:

  • To enhance the understanding of adoption;
  • To improve the quality of information about adoption and triad members; and
  • Educate the public about the 134,000 children in foster care who still wait for forever families.

IAI has accomplished a great deal:

  • An Educator's Guide to Adoption has been introduced into schools worldwide and more organizations are getting the guide incorporated into their schools on a district-wide basis.
  • A Journalist's Guide to Adoption, e-published on our web site, has become the adoption research portal for those covering or exploring adoption today.
  • A Guide to Adoption for Health Care & Counseling Professionals is, for the first time, providing accurate information on adoption to thousands of pregnancy counselors and pre-natal medical professionals.

IAI has identified more professions - as with teachers and journalists - which encounter adoption in their work. We are eager to create guides tailored to meet the unique needs of these workers. We have identified four other guides that are important for triad members as they go through the adoption process and as they seek to educate others. We must also go beyond our traditional resources to alert libraries, schools, day care organizations, colleges, medical associations, and social organizations of our valuable tools. But, all of this takes increased funding.
