Foster Care, Birthparent Search, Reunion

Tone:

I loved this movie. I found it to be a wonderful way to allow some of the issues near and dear to my heart to be examined in a mainstream movie.

The movie is about a young man who was abandoned at birth by his mother, and whose father was dead. He grew up in foster care, and was not ever adopted. He was abused in foster care, and suffered many losses. He joins the Navy and ends up, due to anger issues, seeing a Psychiatrist. He begins a search and that search leads him to a healing with his past. The scene where he goes back to his abusive foster home to obtain information for his search was awesome. He faced his abusers and was able to overcome his fear and tell them how he felt. When he met his birthfather's family he was met with open arms. This is where a true healing happened.

Comments:

I felt that the scene where he met his birthmother was not realistic, and although I have not read the book I heard it was handled very differently in the book. I will be reading that soon.

Recommendation:

I highly recommend this movie. I would encourage you to tell your friends who are not involved in adoption to see it too. It will be an eye opener for them as well.
