Adoption Content:
Based on a true story -- an infant
is inadvertently left behind when her family escapes Hungary during
Communist takeover. The child is raised as their own, to age
6, by loving Hungarian family friends. Then the Red Cross succeeds
in retrieving the child and bringing her to America to be reunited
with her birth family. The child feels she doesn't belong here
and longs to return to the Hungarian family who raised her to
age 6. She has a rebellious teenage period. Eventually she returns
to Hungary and connects again with her foster parents. In the
end, she concludes that she loves her foster parents but that
she is now a different person than she was back then; she gains
an appreciation for her birth family and decides that's where
she belongs.
Tone:
The movie does a good job of portraying
the confusing feelings children have as they're torn between different
families who love them. In the end, everyone seems to feel resolution.
Comments:
There is a little bit of Hungarian
dialogue here and there with English captioning; you need to read
quickly, the captioning disappears quickly.
Recommendation:
We thought the movie was very good but strongly advise that parents preview the movie before deciding whether their child is at a stage where they should see it.
